Sam Troughton is a British actor who was born on March 21, 1977. He is the grandson of Doctor Who actor Patrick Troughton and the son of David Troughton. Jim Troughton, a cricketer for Warwickshire, is his younger brother. Troughton earned his bachelor’s degree in theatre from the University of Hull in 1998. Troughton is a well-known Shakespearean actor who received an award nomination while performing with the Royal Shakespeare Company. He has also appeared in numerous television shows, including Sky One’s Hex, as well as the horror flicks Spirit Trap (starring Billie Piper) and Alien vs. Predator.

 In addition, he had an appearance in the SAS drama Ultimate Force. He starred as Robin’s ex-manservant, Much, in the BBC Robin Hood series (2006–2009) beginning in October 2006. Patrick Troughton, Troughton’s grandpa, featured in the original Robin Hood television series in 1953. In Samuel West’s production of Shakespeare’s As You Like It at the Crucible Theatre in Sheffield, Troughton played the love-struck Orlando. In 2009-2011, he was a member of the RSC’s ensemble, performing in the Courtyard Theatre in Stratford-upon-Avon.

 At the Courtyard Theatre, he portrayed Marcus Brutus in Julius Caesar and the Third Gentleman in The Winter’s Tale in 2009, then Romeo in Romeo & Juliet and King Arthur in Morte D’Arthur in 2010. A Streetcar Named Desire stage performance in Liverpool was one of his other roles. In 2013, he portrayed Thomas in Bull at Sheffield’s Crucible Studio Theatre, and in January 2014, he will play Edmund in King Lear at the Royal National Theatre.
