Patrick Gower is a political journalist in New Zealand who works for Newshub as the National Correspondent. He was Newshub’s political editor before his current position.

Patrick’s father worked as a power station fitter and turner and his mother worked as a doctor’s receptionist. Patrick Gower’s Mother, Joan, died in 2006 after a painful, year-long battle with terminal lung cancer. She died at just 57.
Patrick earned a BA in politics with honours from Victoria University of Wellington, which he chose since it was close to Parliament. He became active in Salient magazine while at Victoria University.
He went to Auckland University of Technology to study journalism after finishing his politics degree. Gower began his journalism career at The New Zealand Herald, where he worked the graveyard shift (6 p.m.–1:30 a.m.) before becoming one of the paper’s two police reporters.
Gower lives in Wellington and has two children.
