Michael Mann Parents: Meet Jack Mann, Esther Mann

Michael Mann is an American film director, screenwriter, and producer. He is the son of Jewish grocers Esther and Jack Mann.

Mann studied English literature at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. He fell in love with films while a student after seeing Stanley Kubrick’s Dr Strangelove.

Mann received his B.A. from the University of Wisconsin in 1965. He received an M.A. from the London Film School in 1967.

Michael Kenneth Mann’s most well-known works are his stylized crime dramas. Thief (1981), Manhunter (1986), The Last of the Mohicans (1992), Heat (1995), The Insider (1999), Collateral (2004), and Public Enemies (2009) are among his most acclaimed works.

He is also well-known for his work as an executive producer on the popular television series Miami Vice (1984–89), which he adapted into a feature film in 2006.

Michael Mann has received nominations for his work from international organisations and juries such as the British Academy of Film and Television Arts, the Cannes Film Festival, and the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.
