Leon Edwards competed in BAMMA and went 5-0 while picking up all five victories. He won the welterweight championship by defeating Wayne Murrie, and he then successfully defended it against Shaun Taylor.
After that, he competed in the UFC for the first time in 2014 against Claudio Silva but lost on a split decision.
Edwards won two more contests by unanimous decision against Pawel Pawlak and Dominic Waters after defeating Seth Baczynski via knockout. He was defeated by Kamaru Usman in the UFC by a unanimous decision for the second fight.
After that, Edwards overcame Bryan Barberena, Vicente Luque, Albert Tumenov, and four other opponents in a row before knocking out Peter Sobotta in the third round.
Donald Cerrone was decisively defeated by Edwards in 2018 by a unanimous vote. He defeated Gunnar Nelson in his next fight by a split decision, but Jorge Masvidal attacked him behind the scenes.
Later, in the main event of UFC on ESPN 4, Edwards won by unanimous decision over Rafael dos Anjos.
The fight between Tyron Woodley and Edwards was scheduled for March 21, 2020, however, Edwards had to postpone because of COVID-19 rules.
