Bracker was born in the mid-1940s in Mondamin, Iowa. Bracker started playing basketball as a forward in high school and was a starter for two years. Bracker continued her basketball career at Dana College, where she earned a bachelor’s degree in physical education and English in 1966.
In 1970, she completed her education by earning a master’s degree from the University of Northern Colorado.
Bracker taught physical education to children in Omaha, Nebraska, and Casper, Wyoming before becoming an assistant coach for Northern Colorado’s women’s basketball team in the late 1960s. Bracker turned down a field hockey coaching position at Iowa State in 1970 to coach women’s basketball at Midland University.
From the 1980s to the 2000s, Bracker led the Midland Warriors to multiple NAIA Women’s Basketball Championships in Division I and Division II. Their best performance during this time period was a fourth-place finish in the 1985 Division I championship.
