The UK native was born Nathalie Joanne Emmanuel on March 2, 1989, in Southend-On-Sea, Essex, England. She first attended St Hilda’s School and later Westcliff High School for Girls. Growing up, Nathalie had always dreamed of becoming an actress and began exhibiting her passion for art and theatre from a young age. It is, therefore, no surprise that she began her acting career at the age of 10 with appearances on stage.
Career
The beautiful and talented actress has been active in the entertainment industry since 2006. She debuted onstage playing the starring role of Young Nala in the West End musical production The Lion King. She kicked off appearances on the small screen at age 17, portraying the character Sasha Valentine in the show Hollyoaks (2006-2010). Her journey to fame wasn’t an easy one as after leaving the show in 2010, she struggled to find work but to no avail and then settled for a job at a clothing store. However, Nathalie never gave up on her dreams and continued to audition for roles while at the job.
Her silver screen debut was in the 2012 movie Twenty8k. But she got her relaunch back into the acting world when she auditioned for Game Of Thrones (GOT). The tough and incredibly internal character Missandei which threw Nathalie into the limelight was first introduced in GOT, the series set in the fictional world of Westeros, as an enslaved interpreter, but the Mother of Dragons freed her. She now serves Targaryen as a trusted handmaid, advisor, and friend. Her role as Targaryen’s right-hand woman is becoming even more important and the stakes are higher.
Given how incredibly successful the show became, and how her character as Missandei grew, it opened up so many doors for her thereafter. The show Game of Thrones is such a success that it commands an audience from the highest level celebrities such as Madonna and Barack Obama.
