Darrell Mudra was an American gridiron football coach.
Born January 14, 1929, Darell Mudra completed Omaha South High School in Omaha, Nebraska, in 1946. He then attended Peru State College and played as a fullback on their gridiron football team, graduating in 1951.
In 1952, Mudra was hired as an assistant basketball coach at the University of Omaha—now known as the University of Nebraska Omaha—where he was also pursuing a master’s degree in English.
When he retired in 1988 at age 58, Mudra compiled a stellar 200-81-4 record. That is a winning percentage of .709 over 25 seasons with seven different college programs. He coached two national champion teams, Adams State in Colorado in 1965 and Eastern Illinois. He also coached one season in the Canadian Football League.
Mudra was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame as a coach in 2000.
Darrell Mudra died on September 21, 2022, at the age of 93.
