D’Angelo Russell’s Early Life and Career Achievements

D’Angelo Russell was born on the 23rd of February 1996, in Louisville, Jefferson, Kentucky. The name of his parents is Antonio Russel and Keisha Rowe and he grew up with is siblings; Lashaun, Tayshaun, and Cloee Russell. D’Angelo basketball talents started manifesting at a tender age and he didn’t hesitate to toe that line. He attended Central High School in Louisville, Kentucky, before moving to Montverde Academy after one year.

In June 2013, D’Angelo enrolled to Ohio State University, despite having offers from Louisville Michigan state and North Carolina. In Ohio, D’Angelo Russell made more impact with a record of 14 rebounds in a win over Maryland and subsequently 33 points in a 69–67 win over Northwestern. He recorded a triple-double with 23 points, 11 rebounds, and 11 assists in a 79–60 win over Rutgers on February 8 and it became the first triple-double recorded by an Ohio freshman. The team recorded a 75–56 loss to Arizona to end their season, however, D’Angelo Russell was named the Big Ten Freshman of the ear.

In his 35 game-spell in Ohio State University, D’Angelo recorded an average of 19.3 points, 5.7 rebounds, 5.0 assists, and 1.6 steals in 33.9 minutes per game. He was selected by the Los Angeles Lakers with the second overall pick in the 2016 NFL draft. He put pen on paper in July 2015 for a rookie scale contract with the Lakers and went on to average 11.8 points, 5.2 rebounds and 3.2 assists in five Summer League games.

He was part of the 2016 rising star challenge and recorded 22 points and seven assists in Team USA’s triumph over Team World.

He is believed to be the youngest Lakers player to have scored 40 points in regular-season game. At the end of 2015–2016 season, he was leading the Lakers and all rookies in steals per game and emerged the youngest to hit 130 three-pointers in a season. He earned NBA All-Rookie Second Team honors for his efforts.

In the build-up to the 2016 Summer Olympics, D’Angelo was in the US Select Team that practiced against the United States men’s team. He was impressive in the 2016-2017 season, he scored 20 points in 120–114 win over Houston Rockets. He also scored a season-high 32 points in a 125-118 win over Brooklyn Nets.

He made his second season career double-double with 22 points, a career-high 10 assists and seven rebounds that saw to the Lakers 120-116 victory over the Denver Nuggets. He also scored a career-high 40 points in a 125-120 loss to the Cleveland Cavaliers before moving to pitch his tent with his current team, Brooklyn Nets on 22nd June 2017.

D’Angelo Russell lost his match against Indiana Pacers despite posting an impressive 30 points and five assists. He has continued to impress his teaming fans and recorded his first career triple-double with 18 points, 13 assists and 11 rebounds in a loss against the Raptors which was the Nets first-ever triple-double since Terrence Williams recorded same in 2010.

Injury Report 

D’Angelo’s career has been seriously stalled by injuries but he has often bounced back bigger and better with amazing enthusiasm. He was ruled out for two weeks in November 2016 following a left knee injury. Again, he was ruled out for a week in January 2017 plays offs, following an injury in his right knee and leg injuries.

In November 2017, he had surgery on his left knee following an injury he sustained in a match; he stayed about 2 months off the pitch before making a return.
