Papa Malick Ba (born November 11, 1980 in Pikine) is a Senegalese international footballer who is currently contracted with FC Mulhouse. He can play as a central defender or as a defensive midfielder but is preferred in the latter role due to his lack of ability in the air.

Career

Club

Ba started his career with Tunisian club Club Sportif Sfaxien in 1997 at the age of 17. He did not play any games until he was 19 and in his third season at the club. He started coming off the bench, impressing the fans after doing so. By his fourth season at the club, he was a first-team regular and was the team’s main holding midfield player. Rumours started circulating that a French club was going to sign him but these rumours appeared to be false.

In 2004 numerous Swiss clubs chased his signature, but Sfaxien turned down all offers initially, until FC Basel made them an offer they could not refuse and bought him in 2005. He played 79 league games for the team, scoring 2 goals. During his time with Basel he won the Swiss Championship twice, in 2005 and 2008, and the Swiss Cup twice, in 2007 and 2008. He also won the Uhren Cup with Basel in 2006. The club did not extended his contract and he was released in July 2008.

On 14 February 2009, he signed for FC Dinamo Bucureşti of Romania on a free transfer. He played nine games for them. On 28 August 2009 the 28-year-old Senegalese Midfielder left FC Dinamo Bucureşti to join FC Nantes.
