A commercially available goose repellent contains methyl anthranilate, a chemical that is found naturally in grape juice and gives grape bubblegum its flavor. Methyl anthranilate irritates nerves in avian eyes, throat and beaks while other animals just smell grape.

There is no magic goose repellent chemical, light, noise maker, distress call, fake coyote or pond design that will 100% scare geese away.

Onions, any part- contains the toxin thiosulphate. Chocolate- contains the toxin theobromine. Coffee or tea- contains caffeine which is dangerous to geese. Anything visibly moldy or rotten.

Coyote decoys are also effective in scaring geese away. The coyote is a natural predator of geese. They love to go after the eggs and goslings of a mating pair; using the coyote decoys on your lawn will trigger the instinct of fear and the geese will leave for a safer home.

But geese get used to noises quickly, especially in noisy neighborhoods and if the geese see no other reason to be scared. Frightening noises work much better if the geese see a mobile threat such as people shooing them or goose-herding dogs.

Parasites, E. Coli, and aggression are just a few of those problems. Canada geese feces can be hazardous to people’s health, but usually only when inhaled or ingested. Walking past geese feces, or even lounging near them on the beach is likely safe to healthy people.

Geese, famous for their copious defecation, are less likely to defecate when they are flying than when they are grazing and walking on the ground, and they tend to empty their cloacas upon takeoff, cutting down on the risk to bystanders, said Laura Erickson, science editor at the Cornell Laboratory of Ornithology.

The types of parasites that geese can carry are cryptosporidium, giardia and toxoplasmosis. The symptoms from these parasites include diarrhea and infection, especially if your immune system is low. The ways infection can occur is through eating a goose that is under-cooked or drinking contaminated water.
